Starting with Genomics, the so-called “Omics Revolution” has resulted in the creation (or renaming) of a broad range of research areas, including proteomics, metabolomics, interferomics, and glycomics. Discoveries and advancements in these diverse arenas have often remained confined within each respective field, a situation that benefits neither the researchers nor the broader public. The integration of multiple -omics is not only desirable, but could be argued to be necessary for the progress of discovery. This webinar aims to feed the process of integration by allowing three experts to present their experience with the marrying of various -omics, providing an engaging discussion of the challenges, successes, and best practices.

Grundkurs: Statistics

Der Grundkurs Statistik führt Sie in die statistische Beschreibung und Analyse von Experimentdaten ein. Hierzu werden folgende Schwerpunktthemen besprochen und an praktischen Beispielen von den Teilnehmern selbst erarbeitet:

• Einführung und Vertiefung statistischer Grundlagen
• Explorative Statistik
• Verteilungen
• Beurteilende Statistik
• Konfidenzintervalle und Intervallschätzung
• Testmethoden
• Versuchsplanung und Festlegung des Stichprobenumfangs
• Einführung in die Varianzanalyse (ANOVA)

Darüber hinaus werden verschiedene Möglichkeiten des Einsatzes von statistischen Dienstprogrammen (u.a. auch MS Excel) vorgestellt und in die praktischen Übungen einbezogen.

Natürlich ist es auch bei diesem Kurs möglich, spezielle Fragestellungen der Kursteilnehmer in das Kursprogramm zu integrieren.

Online turorial - WISE: Web Interface for Statistics Education

A special feature of WISE is the sequence of interactive tutorials on key statistical concepts (sampling distributions, the central limit theorem, hypothesis testing, and statistical power). The tutorials use dynamic applets that allow the user to explore relationships on their own. Guided exercises are designed to help the learner to take full advantage of the applets to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts and logic that underlie much of inferential statistics.
